WHY I BECAME A NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR…

Interestingly, I never envisioned I would become a doctor. I loved to dance and at one point considered a career teaching others dance therapy. For me, dance was the key factor in my life that always helped me to express who I was, kept me mentally and physically healthy, and truly made me feel like a whole person. I really wanted to find a career that helped people feel whole and empowered in the same way dance helped me.

In addition to contemplating dance therapy, I was also interested in nutrition. I grew up being influenced by healthy food, but still often felt I was struggling to find what nutrients were most suited to my body.  On my personal health quest, I stumbled across the term Naturopathic Doctor while reading “Eat Right for your Type” by Dr. Peter D’Adamo. Once I began researching the principles of Naturopathic Medicine and the education requirements, everything aligned and I felt excited and anxious to pursue this career path.

I can honestly say that going to Naturopathic Medical school changed my life. It was rigorous and hard, but it gave me so many tools that have improved my life tremendously. I feel extremely lucky and privileged to be able to pass on what I have learned to others so they too can feel the strength and empowerment from learning to deeply care for themselves.

THINGS YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT ME

I am extremely afraid of rodents! Unfortunately, I realized this fear when I came face to face with it during my year long undergraduate thesis where I had to handle live rats every day.

I studied abroad in Cape Town, South Africa for six months. While there, I went bungee jumping and shark cage diving among many other fun adventures!

I never know the correct lyrics to songs but sing along the entire time anyways.

When I am working out, I am in my happy place.  Preferably running, biking or hiking outside. I also love hot yoga, spin classes and lifting.
